Web Design – Internship

Graphite Lab is now offering a Web Design internship! The ideal candidate will have a creative spirit with a mind for business, and an incredible passion to learn new things.  This is an unpaid part-time position, available for 20 hours of work per week over a 3 month period.

Why we host internships

  1. We develop websites in a very unique way, based upon our roots as game developers. It’s not a method taught in the classroom, so we teach it through internships.
  2. Our most capable designers understand the business of web design. This education is often overlooked while in school, so we teach that too.

Thus, we host internships as a way to build these skills within the next generation of creative professionals.

What we love to see

The best candidates will be currently studying web development, or graphic design and have working knowledge of HTML and CSS. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a solid knowledge of Photoshop, a familiarity with Dreamweaver, and be able to share an online portfolio of work that shows clean, intelligent designs.

Bonus points!

Having Flash and/or ActionScript experience is a plus, especially if you can animate as well. Experience using open source CMS tools like WordPress, Drupal and Joomla is also welcome. A basic understanding of web technologies such as PHP, Javascript or XML is also a big advantage. Lastly, a passion for games is important as we use game design as a foundation for what we do on the web.

What we offer in return

As an intern you will participate in design discussions, generate concepts for site designs and develop HTML and CSS pages for publishing on live sites. You’ll become more comfortable writing pitches, making bids, interfacing with clients and making decisions that will help you meet deadlines. You will become a better web designer and creative thinker under mentorship from the Graphite Lab team. You will learn more about Graphite Lab, and how we plan to grow game development in St Louis for consoles and the web.
